National School Lunch Challenge Win!
I had the pleasure of developing recipes for the National School Lunch Challenge event held at Barrow Elementary School in Athens, Georgia. The event was hosted by te Richard B. Russell Special Collections Library as part of the Food, Power & Politics: The Story of School Lunch exhibit.
Four teams were invited to compete agaisnt each other to design a lunch meal for Clarke County School District students. The recipe had to meet school nutrition guidelines. Student judges and challenge attendees had the chance to vote for their favorite meals. The winning meals will be served for lunch next school year.
I represented the Athens Land Trust with a co-worker. We also worked with two school ntrition staff members from Clarke Central High School. We competed agaisnt teams from local resturants including The National, Heirloom Cafe and Fresh Market and Goodie Two Shoes.
My team decided to make a vegeterian dish. We created a chickpea veggie burger served on a whole wheat bun and zucchini fries. Our dish won crowd favorite award! This is truly an honor. Check out the winning recipes on the Food page!
